Hunt Artist Residency Program

The Hunt Residencies program is designed to nurture and accelerate the careers of emerging artists by offering a collaborative environment and mentorship program. During their residency, artists have the opportunity to collaborate with fellow residents and established artists, fostering a vibrant community of creative exchange.

About Us

In April 2022, the C. Stuart and Jane H. Hunt Art Gallery launched the Hunt Residencies Artist in Residence Program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at supporting emerging artists in Buffalo. The program offers a unique opportunity for local artists to access free studio space in the lower level of the gallery, providing them with a conducive environment to create and develop their artistic practice

Program Overview

Hunt Residencies is a dynamic, collaborative residency program designed for creation, contemplation, and presentation. Artists in residence have 24/7 studio access and engage in a variety of opportunities to develop and share their work.

Participants take part in Hunt Gallery events, resident meetings, and a structured mentorship program. They also will collaborate with the Gallery Director to curate a group exhibition at the residency’s conclusion.

Under the leadership of Hunt Art Gallery’s Director, the program offers a comprehensive mentorship initiative, connecting residents with established artists, creatives, and organizations such as the Burchfield Penney Art Center, Buffalo Arts Studio, Art Services Inc., Spicy Creative, and the Buffalo Society of Artists.

Resident Testimonials

"This residency gave me the space and support to grow more into my artistry and instilled in me confidence to continue to expand my career and give it more purpose. I've met many amazing mentors and people from my community that are Wells of wisdom. It's such a unique opportunity that most artists in Buffalo would benefit from. I enjoyed every second of it.”

Our Mentors and Partners:

"I am extremely grateful to have been granted the opportunity to be a resident at Hunt Art Gallery. Alongside 24/7 studio access, I strongly benefited from our regular group meetings with local guest speakers and frequent open studios that happened alongside openings, artist talks, and various other Beebe's events. Hearing stories of experience, exhibition etiquette, and tips and tricks from successful Buffalo artists was enlightening and expanded my point of view. I am glad to be able to have grown closer and form bonds with the other resident artists and the gallery director, Christina.”
